Listening Station Shiraz

Listening Station Shiraz

Soft supple Victorian Shiraz, dangerously moreish by the glass. Bright, aromatic and juicy on the nose with just a touch of naughty bacon fat and white pepper. True to the varietal. This vintage is our brightest, most dangerously drinkable Shiraz to date due to its fine, bright fruit and soft silky elegance.

Our Shiraz is sourced from ancient Victorian soils in order to achieve a wine with greater finesse, purity and structure as well as typical eucalypt flavours and saline finish associated with the area. Picked at night and crushed within an hour of picking before being sent to the fermentation tanks. The Shiraz grapes were fermented in temperature-controlled tanks maintained at 22 Р25ºC to avoid extracting any harsh tannins, with the fermentations pumped over to extract good colour. 20% of the final blend is barrel aged.

Drink with Moroccan lamb tagine, roast vegetables and hard cheeses.

Victoria’s cooler climate ensures the grapes used for this wine come in with wonderfully fresh flavours. This Shiraz has sweet spice, black cherry and a lovely menthol, eucalyptus note. On the palate the wine has a medium body with some ripe cola cube notes with cherry fool and fresh blackberries. This is a fantastic value for money Shiraz that is perfect for lamb stew or lasagna.

Listening Station

In the 1960s the International Space Race was dependent on contact with the few tiny listening and tracking stations in Western Australia: their location crucial for continual communication with the astronauts spinning around the planet. The Listening Station celebrates this relationship, the vast and empty immensity of Western Australian night and the isolated communities that work there.

Victoria

Victoria is a small state in area, but home to possibly the largest number of wineries in Australia, most of them which are small family-run operations. Victoria’s diverse topography, combining numerous mountain ranges, like the Grampians and the Victorian Pyrenees throughout the centre; flat plains in the northeast; and hilly, ocean-cooled reaches in the Melbourne area, make its vineyards amongst the most scenic in Australia. An enormous range of wine styles are available, and virtually every varietal flourishes in some part of the state.
