Saddle Creek Semillon Chardonnay

Saddle Creek Semillon Chardonnay

Saddle Creek Semillon Chardonnay

An inviting and easy blend of creamy Chardonnay complemented by fresh Semillon, full of tropical pineapple flavours.
Tasting Note
A delicate blend of herbaceous Semillon and exotic tropical Chardonnay fruit characters with subtle oak complexity balanced by a crisp, fresh finish.
Vineyard
Sourced from vineyards throughout the Riverina region. The vine age is varied, but all vines have been spur pruned and are generally trained on a single wire cordon trellising system. The vines are planted at approximately 1.8 metres apart with 3.6 metres between the rows, to allow machinery access. The soil styles in the vineyards are varied, with each terroir adding its own characteristic to the final wine.
Winemaking
The grapes were cold fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel vats to retain the fruity aromatics. A portion was fermented on oak with the lees to add
complexity and texture.

Grape
Semillon 70%, Chardonnay 30%

Established by Bob & Cherie Berton in May 1996 with 75 acres of land at 450m above sea level on gently rolling hills in a sub-region of Eden Valley in South Australia. The Reserve Shiraz and Reserve Chardonnay wines are still sourced from this plot. In 2007 Bob purchased the Yenda winery in the heart of the Riverina. This state of the art facility allows Berton Vineyards to produce value for money wines which sit alongside his premium single vineyard offerings.

Berton Vineyards all started at our Eden Valley Vineyard, in High Eden, South Australia. High Eden is a subregion of Eden Valley, situated in the Barossa Valley. It is the highest part of the Barossa, about 500 meters above sea level. In this beautiful part of the world we have planted Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The best parcels of fruit from our Shiraz vineyards go into our Berton Vineyards Bonsai Shiraz, our flagship wine. Fruit from the Shiraz vineyard also forms the backbone for our Reserve Shiraz, which won the Decanter Platinum Best Value Rhone varietal in 2017. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc make our High Eden Range, and the Chardonnay goes into the White Rock Chardonnay and our Reserve Eden Valley Chardonnay.

Saddle Creek

The Berton Vineyards story began 25 years ago from humble beginnings.

We are still young enough to be awed by tradition but we also challenge ourselves by testing the boundaries of winemaking.

We pride ourselves on being a contemporary winery with an emphasis on all that is casual, friendly and approachable in wine. Our philosophy is to make affordable, easy drinking wines of quality achieved through pairing modern technology with traditional techniques.

Testament to our philosophy are our award winning wines such as our High Eden Bonsai Shiraz, Reserve Botrytis Semillon and Metal Label range.

New South Wales

The Hunter Region is the premium wine region of New South Wales and one of Australia’s most well-known, and historically important wine regions. Distinctive styles of Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz are the hallmark of this region. James Busby the man credited with bringing the vine to Australia was associated with the Hunter Valley through his brother-in-law William Kelman. Kelman is thought to be the first to plant vines in the Hunter. George Wyndham planted grapes in 1832. Penfolds bought the property in 1904 naming it Wyndham Estate. Dr Henry Lindeman purchased land around Raymond Terrace in the 1830s. So too did James King whose legacy passed onto Maurice O’Shea who came to the forefront of Hunter Valley winemaking in the 1920s. The area fell into depression for many years, but gradually made a comeback in the early 1960s. Today the region is booming. The climate is regarded as warm to hot. The main wine styles: White – Semillon (regarded as one Australia’s greatest and unique wines, with great aging potential), Chardonnay; Red – Shiraz.

Sauvignon / Semillon Blends

Sauvignon Blanc is often blended with Semillon which creates a perfect partnership and fuller palate style. Particularly good from Margaret River region.
