Sub Aqua Club Field Blend – A hugely unlikely field blend of Viognier & Riesling, which make brilliant bedfellows in this aromatic, textural Barossa babe.
80-90yo Seppeltsfield vineyard, bush vine Mataro and converted trellised Grenache. 10% whole bunches picked and co-fermented together, basket pressed to seasoned French oak and an old USA puncheon. Bursts of juiciness with a bit of dirty goodness from the Mataro!
Sub Aqua Club is predominantly a Viognier plus some other whites (mainly Riesling) that were accidently planted in a vineyard in Moppa Springs in the furthest Northern vineyard in the Barossa
Valley. The vines are dry-grown, and all the fruit is harvested before sunrise to keep the grapes as cool as possible. Whole berries are placed in open-top fermenters with indigenous yeasts. The temperature
is kept as low as possible to keep the ferment long and gentle, and the cap is plunged 2-3 times daily. After 5-7 days on the skins the ferment is pressed and racked to stainless steel to finish fermenting to
dryness. MLF occurs in seasoned, neutral French oak and then the wine is left on the lees for about a month. The lees are then removed, and the wine left to age in barrel for 4-5 months before filtration
and bottling.
Would work well with Hawaian pizzas, Vietnamese ginger dishes, pan-fried pear and cumin desserts, and any dry, aromatic curries.

Smalltown Vineyards is named after a 28ha vineyard of the same name, an awesome old block in the Northern Barossa’s esteemed Ebenezer District. The vineyard is a joint venture between noted Barossa winemaker Rolf Binder and UK based wine merchant Noel Young.

The Barossa Valley is one of the major regions in Australia, where many of the major wine companies are based. It is believed the first vineyards were planted in the 1840s by Silesian migrants (who settled in Bethany). There followed a rapid expansion of plantations. The early styles of wines produced were heavy dry red wines and fortified wines that were popular both domestically and in Britain. After the Second World War the styles shifted to lighter table wines with production of Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. The Barossa Valley is home to some very well known names such as Seppelt, Wolf Blass and Penfolds as well as many smaller producers. The climate is Mediterranean with hot dry summers and cool wet winters, making it ideal for viticulture. The main wine styles: White – Semillon, Riesling, Chardonnay, Semillon-Chardonnay blend; Red – Shiraz (full bodied & ripe) with Old Vine Shiraz a speciality of many vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Shiraz-Grenache-Mataro blend, Cabernet-Merlot blend.
