Yalumba Hand Picked Shiraz/Viognier
The Yalumba Hand Picked Shiraz/Viognier is sourced entirely from the Eden Valley region. In 2015, three Shiraz vineyards stood out for their style and elegance and are the components of the blend.
2015 stylistically sees the Yalumba Hand Picked Shiraz/Viognier moving in a more complex and refined direction. Impressively aromatic and perfumed showing cranberry, raspberry, spices and violets. Fresh red fruits and a mouth watering acidity showcase the brightness and coolness of Eden Valley. The palate, medium in depth retains the texture and sweet fruits that come with co-fermenting with Viognier. This is not about brute force, this is modern, svelte and balanced albeit in a slightly edgy direction. Pair with twice cooked pork belly with red cabbage, endive and walnut or Sicilian penne with roast tomatoes & eggplant.

Yalumba has been developing its own sustainable viticulture program since the mid 1990s. This starts in the vineyard and extends to every aspect of winemaking, production, packaging and distribution. Many awards and milestones have resulted due to sustainability now being at our core. All Yalumba wines were announced vegetarian and vegan friendly as of 2011. Yalumba is the first wine company in the world to receive the Climate Protection Award from the US Environmental Protection Agency, 2007. These benefits are most obvious in your wine glass.
“Apart from economic viability and social equity, for us, sustainability is about biodiversity in our vineyards,” says Winemaker Louisa Rose. “To encourage it, we’ve done a number of things: we’ve reduced the amount of chemicals we use, incorporated an integrated pest management system, and encouraged biodiversity of vegetation in our vineyards”. All in the name of better winemaking

“Founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, Yalumba is Australia’s oldest family owned winery. Today, the winery is owned by fifth generation descendants, Robert & Sam Hill Smith and their families.
Yalumba is determined to create wines with genuine regional character, varietal flavour and individual personality; wines that say remarkable things about some of the world’s most remarkable wine regions.”
The Eden Valley is between 400 and 600 metres in the Barossa Range, part of the Mount Lofty Range. It shares it historical roots with the Barossa Valley. Yalumba has substantial vineyard holdings, and a winery at Angaston, the site of the first vines planted by founder Samuel Smith in 1849. The cool climate provides ideal conditions for the production of high quality Riesling, Chardonnay and Shiraz wine.
