Cullen Mangan Vineyard East Block
Cullen Mangan Vineyard East Block is made from grapes grown at the Mangan Vineyard and is a blend of Malbec, Petit Verdot and Merlot.
Wine lovers will know Vanya Cullen’s Diana Madeleine Bordeaux blend, named after her mother, but here’s something a little different. This Malbec/Petit Verdot comes from the next-door vineyard owned by Cullen’s brother Rick and sister-in-law Bettina Mangan and is also farmed biodynamically. The fruit is basket-pressed before spending 17 months in French oak, and although it needs time for the sweet oak to integrate, it shows great density, with fine, grippy tannins, a silky mouthfeel and vibrant flavours of mulberry, violets, ink This quality wine was produced on a certified Biodynamic, Carbon Neutral and naturally powered estate. The grapes were harvested from the prime selections of the eastern blocks of the Mangan vineyard, as usual showcasing the best of the specific season.
Cullen follows the maxim that states that great wines are made in the vineyard. Thus, prior to planting, extreme care is taken in choosing the best possible site. Fruit for all Cullen Wines is sourced exclusively from two vineyards, the Cullen Estate Vineyard and the Cullen Mangan Vineyard, both certified A Grade Biodynamic by the Biological Farmers Association (BFA) of Australia
Red wine quality is defined to a large extent by the ripeness of tannin. The wine style is framed around these fine grained tannins coaxed from grapes grown on low yielding vines. This is the theme for all Cullen red wines and gives finesse, flavour and longevity.
Cullen Wines respectfully acknowledges the Wardandi people, past and present, traditional custodians of the land on which our wines are grown

One of Australia’s best small wineries. In 2000 winemaker Vanya Cullen became the Qantas/The Wine Magazine Winemaker of the year. She was the third recipient of this prize, the first Western Australian and the first woman to win the award. Vanya is the daughter of Di & Kevin Cullen, who were the first to plant a commercial vineyard in Margaret River (1966).
Regarded as one of Australia’s best wine producing regions. It is synonymous with a new era in Australian wine. Margaret River really began its vineyard life as a result of two research reports from Californian viticulturalist Professor Harold Olmo and the Western Australian scientist Dr John Gladstone. In 1965 Dr Gladstone’s report indicated that the region had all the attributes to produce world quality wines. This advise was acted on by Dr Tom Cullity who set up his Vasse Felix vineyard near Willyabrup, followed by Dr Kevin Cullen and his wife Di who set up Cullen Wines. The climate is regarded as ‘cool’ because of its long slow ripening season. This region is regarded along with Coonawarra and the Yarra Valley as one of the premium Cabernet Sauvignon areas in Australia. The main wine styles: Red – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet-Merlot, Shiraz; White – Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc, Verdelho.
