An Unanswerable Question ?

We recently had a very complex question sent to us from a really nice potential customer.

“I came across your company on Instagram and wanted to ask if you stock any biodynamic, low sugar, low alcohol, low sulphite, natural wines or if you know of any stockists in the UK who might? I have heard of Dry Farm wines but unfortunately they are an American company.

Thank you for your time and I think your company is fantastic!

I like the last part, but the question itself has too many variables. My response was “Unfortunately you are looking for some contradictory things. Biodynamic is not a problem, we have plenty of options there. 

Low sugar – as the alcohol in wine is created by the fermentation of the product into alcohol, only sweet wines are normally low alcohol. These include Moscato and some other Italian wines.

Low sulphite – there are some wines which do not use preservatives, which then make them natural.

The killer in your description is the low alcohol/sugar conflict.

Which is more important ?”

Interestingly Dry Farm Wines state – “We estimate less than 0.01% of the world’s wines meet our strict criteria.”

Obviously a slightly challenging set of criteria, which will normally require a compromise in the equation
