- What is International Women’s Day?
International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global observance held annually on March 8th. It is a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and to raise awareness about the ongoing fight for gender equality.
The first International Women’s Day was observed in 1911, and it has since become a day of activism, with events and initiatives organized around the world. The day is an opportunity to reflect on progress made towards gender equality and to identify areas where there is still work to be done.
The theme for International Women’s Day changes each year and provides a focus for the day’s events and activities. The theme for IWD 2023 is #EmbraceEquity. The aim of the campaign is to get the world talking about Why equal opportunities aren’t enough. People start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action. was “Choose to Challenge,” which called on individuals to challenge gender bias and inequality in their personal and professional lives.
International Women’s Day is an important reminder of the ongoing struggle for gender equality and the need to continue working towards a world where women and girls have the same rights and opportunities as men and boys.
