Bird in Hand Shiraz

This wine is from the Mount Lofty Ranges; the highest peak in the Adelaide Hills, the range extends past the Bird in Hand property in the Clare Valley.
TASTING NOTE
Lifted and perfumed notes of blackberry, blueberry and violet characters laced with classic nuances of black pepper, cedar and an intriguing savoury edge. Medium bodied and elegant with fleshy dark fruit characters, silky
tannins and balanced acidity culminating in a long and rewarding finish.
VINIFICATION DETAILS
A variety of fruit pressing techniques were used before a mixture of inoculated and wild fermentation took place. The fruit spent 7-12 days on skins before being transferred to seasoned French oak barriques. All
vineyard parcels were kept separate until blending stage, following 18 months in French oak (40% new)

Bird in Hand is a family-owned winery cultivating cool-climate artisan wines that capture the spirit of South Australia’s Adelaide Hills.
Beginning in 1997 in South Australia with the lofty goal of creating internationally recognized wines, their story is one of passion and determination. Inside of a single generation, their vision and dedication to quality continues to manifest in some of the world’s finest flavors.
The Adelaide Hills is one of Australia’s most charming wine regions and home to a large number of premium wine producers. The wine history of the area is similar to many other wine regions: industry developed after the first plantings in the 1840s, only to struggle for economic survival as consumer tastes changed with resurgence in the 1970s – most notably Brian Croser with Petaluma. Today it is very much a boutique vineyard and winery region that is pitching for quality and winning awards. This region has the coolest climate of all South Australian wine regions. Nestled in the Hills, its climate influenced by altitude (350m to 700m) and winds from the St Vincents Gulf. Main wine styles: White – Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling; Red – Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz.
flourish in a range of climates. In the warm to hot climates you can expect extremely intense aromatic, rich, full bodied wines, with hugh fruit (almost sweet) and chocolately tasting. In the more moderate/cooler climates you’re more likely to find structured Shiraz wines with black cherry, pepper and spice characters rather than the chocolate and fruit styles found in warmer climates.
