Regional Reserve Heathcote Shiraz
Victoria has many unique wine regions from the cool climate Yarra Valley to the rich cambrian soils of Heathcote. De Bortoli explore each of these renowned regions with the Regional Reserve range.
This Shiraz is sourced from carefully selected parcels grown on red volcanic soils in Northern Heathcote. The wine is deep red with purple edge. On the nose, ripe dark fruit aromas intermingle with notes of brandy, plum, and white pepper. The palate is juicy with plump dark fruits, cedarwood undertones and gentle tannins.
This wine is a made from a selection of vineyards from the Heathcote region in Victoria. Most fruit is sourced from the Northern part of the region where we see plusher styles of Shiraz. Predominant soil types are old volcanic cambrian soils. These soils are red and deep and known for their water retention. Majority of vineyards are VSP trellised to allow good air flow and light for balance fruit ripening and flavours.
Full bodied dry red to drink with a rich Osso Bucco, Game meats or with a selection of strong hard cheeses.

“De Bortoli Wines is a third generation family wine company established by Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli in 1928. The couple emigrated to Australia from Northern Italy, from mountain villages at the foothills of the Italian Alps, near the historic town of Asolo.
Their son, the energetic and dynamic Deen De Bortoli, (b 1936 – d 2003) expanded and consolidated the business created by his parents. Deen’s children established De Bortoli’s reputation for premium wine including icon dessert wine Noble One and the Yarra Valley wines.”
The modern day development of viticulture in this region is believed to have commenced in the mid 1950s, when Paul Osicka planted his Major’s Creek vineyard. In the 1970s further vineyards were planted; Red Hill (now Red Edge), McIvor Creek, Mount Ida, Jasper Hill, Wild Duck Creek. This region is now the home to some big hitters in Australian Shiraz. The climate is regarded as temperate with cooling southerly winds. The major wine styles: Reds – Shiraz, typically full-bodied, ripe yet supple, with tastes including chocolate, berries, and traces of eucalypt.
