.Kirrihill Partner Series Shiraz – The aroma offers generous layers of black currant, peppery spice, slated liquorish and toasted almonds. The rich and dense palate continue with sweet spice, dark berries and just a hint of vanilla and smoke char. Abundant fine tannins are interwoven with the core of sweet black fruits and introduces you to the multi-layered flavours.
Selected Shiraz parcels were cold soaked for several days and fermented in small batches for a further 10 days. A long, cool ferment ensured that vibrancy and freshness was maintained. The wine was gently pressed off skins to a selection of new French oak and 2 year old French and American oak puncheons, spending a total of 10 months in barrel.
2020 was a dry season with below average rainfall. Hot and windy conditions during flowering caused several vineyards to be inconsistent with fruit set, while hot conditions produced low crops with intense flavour. Diligent vineyard management prevailed, with excellent quality fruit having now produced wines with outstanding flavour.
Founded in 1998 by long-time friends and locals, Sean Edwards and Rob Stanway, the focus at Kirrihill is on the pursuit of growing the best quality fruit possible, whilst managing the vineyards sustainably and respecting the individual sites. The micro-climates within the three small valleys that make up the Clare Valley region provide their winemakers with a diversity of fruit selections to produce expressive wines of purity and intrigue, particularly aromatic Rieslings, which speak profoundly of their place.
Sitting atop the ‘Golden Mile’, a stretch of rare terra rossa soil, their highly prized Schobers Vineyard is one of the most distinguished red wine producing vineyards in Australia. Contour planted on rolling hills at the southern tip of Clare Valley, Schobers Vineyard has consistently produced Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon wines of great complexity, which are rich in concentration with distinctive Clare Valley character.
