Mount Horrocks Watervale Riesling

Mount Horrocks Watervale Riesling

Mount Horrocks Watervale Riesling

Beautifully lifted aroma of orange blossom, lemon and pineapple. Once again bright and cheery, crisp and oh so whistle clean, with steely, juicy citrus fruits over a mineral-like acid frame.

Expressive aromatics of apple and citrus rind. Pretty talc scents.

Delicate yet powerful, crunchy, dry, long zesty finish. Definitive citrus fruits and minerality. Great energy and potential.

Cellar 15-20 years.

Mount Horrocks’ Watervale Riesling Vineyard is unusual in that it is south facing and at a very high altitude – two factors that contribute to a cooler site which is preferred in this time of climate warming.

ACO organic certification and hand tending both reinforce Stephanie’s determination to push the boundaries of sustainability, while at the same time enhancing wine quality. There is no better example than the 2021 Mount Horrocks Watervale Riesling – a beautiful, delicious wine, its concentration reflecting the tiny crop, the lowest in decades.

This is a wine that reflects the season, but even more so, an example of balance; exceptional power and finesse, all wrapped up in a convincingly drink-me-now combination of concentrated flavour and structure.

Mount Horrocks Wines restricts production to approximately 2,500 cases per annum to achieve the highest quality single vineyard wines. All three estate-owned Clare Valley vineyards, totaling ten hectares, are ‘A grade certified’ by Australian Certified Organic (ACO).

As no finings have been found necessary the wines are all suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Only the finest French oak barriques are used for those wines spending time in barrel.

Only estate grown grapes are used and these are hand-picked and gently handled under conditions that ensure the varietal and site-specific flavours in the resultant wine, as well as its organic status, are retained.

Mount Horrocks

Mt. Horrocks is as boutique as wineries come, with an annual production of only 5000 cases. In addition everything is hand picked and hand made. But this boutique approach is allied to a rigorous and technocratic approach in order to preserve the classic Clare Valley characters of the fruit.

South Australia

Vineyards were first established in the mid 1800s. Some of the early winery names, Wendouree, Knappstein and Quelltaler are still in the region. Nowadays there is a mix of very large companies and a significant number of boutique wineries. The climate is regarded as warm, but there are variations due to altitude. The main wine styles: White – Riesling, Semillon, Chardonnay; Red – Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon.
