Australian Mixed Wine Cases are a simple way of buying gifts or presents for all occasions. They almost always represent excellent value for money and take the pain of deciding exactly what to buy for a friend or loved one away. Even if you know something about wine, the decisions on specific wines are often difficult and achieving a balance is often not straight forward particularly if you have a budget in mind. You often have little information on the recipient’s likes and dislikes, and a mixed case of wine is a safe bet, almost guaranteed to please.

Cases are put together taking account of various factors. These may include colour, nationality, region, style, and or budget. In some cases, the mix may well be a composite of more than one factor. The sender may want to send wines from the local area, or of a certain style, and the recipient may well appreciate cases which evoke memories of visits to the winery or district.

A mixed case of wine may well not be the option chosen by everyone; however, it normally elicits true satisfaction from the chosen recipient. If the receiver is not a regular wine buyer a case of wine put together by somebody else can be a very welcome gift. A case is not normally sold as the sum of the parts. Most retailers offer discounts on their cases as it encourages the buyers to potentially invest more in the gift.

Two in Bush Shiraz

Two in Bush Shiraz

Two in Bush Shiraz

Named after one of the original mineshafts in the Bird in Hand goldmine, Two in the Bush wines are great value wines designed for everyday drinking.
TASTING NOTE
Deep red in colour with bright purple hues, this wine exhibits lifted and intense aromatics, with ripe and spicy dark fruit characters of blackberry
and black plum mixed with a touch of pepper and vanilla bean. A medium bodied and elegant wine with plenty of mid-palate weight and flesh, supple
tannins and balanced acidity driving a long finish.
VINTAGE CONDITIONS
The 2020 growing season started on the back of average winter rainfall in the Adelaide Hills. Springtime was characterised by dryer than average
conditions, with rainfall down 35%. There were also several frosty mornings from September through to November. Late Spring to early Summer was
hot and dry. Although bunch numbers were generally good, the conditions meant that bunch weights were well down. This meant that yields across
the board were low. January and early February were characterised by mild conditions and some decent rain events were highly beneficial for
freshening vine canopies and filling out bunches. The remainder of the ripening period through Autumn was favourable, with night-time
temperatures remaining cool, daytime temperatures mild and no major heat spikes or rain events. This enabled a long, slow and even ripening, helped
grapes retain good natural acidity and ensured they could be picked at the optimal time for flavour and style.
VINIFICATION DETAILS
Fruit was destemmed upon arrival to the winery, ensuring a large percentage of whole berries, then processed directly into small open
fermenters ranging between 3-15 tonne. Fermentation takes place with a mix of wild and carefully selected yeast strains. Gentle cap management
techniques were used including hand plunging, pump overs and delestage. Parcels spent between 7-12 days on skins before being gently pressed and
transferred to French oak barrels ranging in size from 225L to 500L. All vineyard parcels are kept separate from harvesting through to final
blending, with the wine characters distinctly different from each vineyard. The 2020 Two in the Bush Shiraz spent approximately 16 months in French
oak. During this time, the wine was racked once to assist in natural clarification. Samples are taken from individual Shiraz barrels and assessed
by the winemaking team, looking for the right mix of colour, fruit character, complexity, and tannin structure for this label. The 2020 Two in the Bush
Shiraz is comprised of 20% new French oak with the remainder in seasoned barrels

The Pugilist Cabernet Sauvignon

The Pugilist Cabernet Sauvignon

The Pugilist Cabernet Sauvignon by Wild & Wilder using grapes grown in Langhorne Creek.

Wild & Wilder is all about good clean fun. Working hand in hand with their merry (in a good season) band of growers, they craft wines of supreme quality but don’t take it all too seriously.

Great fruit, grown by great people and made with a lot of love by people that know that wine is all about the good times, delicious food and creating great memories. Founded by Giles Cooke MW & Fergal Tynan MW, who also make the Thistledown wines, the mundane is just not in their DNA. Being involved in every stage of the winemaking process from bud burst to bottle means that every bottle from Wild & Wilder is an experience you’ll want to try again.

The Pugilist is sourced from vineyard sites in Langhorne Creek, sited above the flood plain. Soils are of sandy loam with some iron rich red soils. Trellised and spur pruned to produce low yields which ensure balance and flavour.

Precise varietal expression and balance are what we seek to achieve and so picking time is of utmost importance. They pick just as flavours are approaching their peak rather than let them get over-ripe. We retain whole berries in the ferment for vibrancy and we press relatively early to avoid astringent tannins.

Sometimes you’ve got to stick up for yourself… Fight for what is right in this world and uphold some good old fashioned values. Of course, one must always retain ones manners and obey the rules just ask the Pugilist. He’s powerful, thick-skinned but well-bred and with the manners and sense of fair play of a true gent. The nose on this wine shows an array of perfumed characters such as violets, oregano & thyme, along with glacé cherry aromas. Sweet ripe cherry fruit dominates the front palate which then develops into a more savoury wine, showing earthiness, toasted spices and lovely dried herb characters.

Wonderful with roast beef or grilled sirloin.

Cloud Factory Pinot Noir

Cloud Factory Pinot Noir

Cloud Factory Pinot Noir – Lifted red fruit on the nose, with wild strawberry flavours and cool climate structure throughout. A great value New Zealand Pinot Noir

The first explorers across the great oceans were greeted by the long white cloud which told them that they had at last sighted New Zealand.
The long white clouds still bear the precious rain that, through the marvellous mechanic of the vine, is distilled by nature into this perfect Pinot Noir.

The Pinot Noir comes from 2 vineyards – 87% Rapaura Gravels and 13% Omaka Valley clay soils which included a number of clones, 667,777,115, Abel and Clone 5. Both vineyards were pruned to 2
cane VSP and yields were naturally around the 7T/Ha mark. After green thinning on the vine the fruit was harvested over a period of 10 days from late March through to early April . Each parcel was kept
separate and fermented in small open top tanks and hand plunged up to 4 times daily. Post pressing, wine was sent to a mixture of stainless steel and French oak for MLF and ageing.

From maritime vineyards in Marlborough’s south easterly extremes in the Blind River Valley. They exploit this coastal fruit by capturing a breezy finesse over the classic cranberry and wild strawberry
aromas giving them a wine with enough bite and texture to be foody but with enough generosity of fruit to be a delicious glass on its own. A lick of oak in the winemaking lends a little soothing creaminess to
the whole

Made to go with delicate, rich and aromatic food such as duck dim sums, tempura fried vegetables and oriental salads

Summer of 69 Verdelho

Summer of 69 Verdelho

Summer of 69 Verdelho

A bouquet of honeysuckle and lemon followed by a sherbet edge. Fresh pineapple and white peach fill out the flavours giving the wine a light, summer feel. The name was inspired by the date of birth of the owner Sarah marquis. The Hippy era, peace, love and good times. The wine inspires these feelings. The summer of love and San Francisco spring to me and the wine promotes this beautifully. Wine for flowers in the hair.

Early spring saw perfect conditions for fruit growth, hinting at a promising start for the 2019 vintage. Bud burst occurred in the first weeks of September and accelerated through October. Some vines became vulnerable during the November flowering season with cooler, stormy conditions, but as the weather warmed up, ripening of the fruit continued at a steady pace into summer. Despite a few spells of anticipated hot weather in January – with South Australia breaking a number of heat records around the Australia Day holiday – temperatures did eventually stabilise, resulting in ideal growing conditions for the fruit to achieve its optimum colour and flavour.

Tyrrell's Hunter Valley Semillon

Tyrrell's Hunter Valley Semillon

Tyrrell’s Hunter Valley Semillon

Vineyard
A selection of some of our top Semillon vineyards around the Hunter Valley. Most of the vineyards are dry grown and have an average vine age of 40 years.
Vintage Conditions
The autumn and winter months of 2020 saw the worst drought in a generation be broken with substantial rainfall, we led into an outstanding growing season for the 2021 vintage. A cool summer then gave us even, stress-free ripening with some heat around Australia Day that was perfectly timed at the final stages of ripening. With an early budburst and later than normal harvesting, the fruit had a longer than normal hang time, which meant that all of the fruit had wonderful flavours balanced by a high natural acidity.
Winemaker’s Notes
The grapes were machine picked in the cool of the night before gentle pressing and fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine then spent a short amount of time on yeast lees to gain extra complexity and mouth feel.
Tasting Notes
Textbook Hunter Valley Semillon from an outstanding vintage, the nose is vibrant with an abundance of citrus fruits and floral elements. The palate is medium bodied, yet intense, with great length and a brisk acidity

Soldiers Block Chardonnay

Soldiers Block Chardonnay

Soldiers Block Chardonnay is an elegant and easy drinking wine. This vibrant Chardonnay exhibits lifted fruit character, bright tangerine fleshiness, textural mouth-feel, a bright palate and a long and foodie finish.

Long standing working relationships with some key growers enable us to source premium fruit, with the ultimate aim of making excellent quality Australian house wines with true style and character. Grapes were picked earlier than usual to ensure balance and freshness in the final wine. Harvesting took place in the early dawn hours when it’s still cool and calm which helps retain the rich characters within these grapes. Once in the cellar, they are gently crushed to maintain the bright, fresh flavours crucial to the clonal tang. Around 15% of the grapes are sourced from the cooler, sea breeze influenced Langhorne Creek area. This portion is barrel aged in French medium toast casks to obtain a more complex, textural and weighty style of wine. It is then added to the greater part of the blend which is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel to retain the fresh fruit characters.

This vibrant Chardonnay exhibits lifted fruit character, bright tangerine fleshiness, textural mouth- feel, a bright palate and a long and foodie finish. The judicious addition of blob of oaked Chardonnay adds palate weight and texture.

Eat with Full-flavoured fish such as trout or halibut or chicken in a light creamy sauce.
