Wishbone Shiraz Cabernet
This is a bright, bloody Shiraz from old river land vines blended with Barossa Cabernet that gives the nose a grapite, leafy lift. A South Australian classic the palate reflects the rich iron source soils with
notes of ripe, fresh red cherries with a touch of star anise from the local eucalypt influence.
Bottled after 10 months in oak. Fruits comes from vineyards around the Barossa. The wine is partly tank fermented and partly aged in oak, with a small new oak component. The blend is put together to be a juicy drinkable red that has some depth and complexity often missing at this price point.
This wine is great with roast beef or lamb, as well as grilled meats and BBQs.

Established in 2011, Smalltown Vineyards highlights many of the Barossa’s prized districts, including Gomersal, Kalimna, Eden Valley and beyond.
We work with exceptional vineyards, simply capturing with the unique characteristics of the fruit by applying minimal intervention. Basket pressing were relevant, and natural ferments in open top fermenters capture the magical flavours of the Barossa.
And when it comes to the labels, we embrace the fun, quirky and creative, because, well, we can, and it is only wine after all.
As of the 1st July, 2019, Australia changed from its previous sustainable programme called EntWine to Sustainable Winegrowing Australia. Smalltown Vineyards is a participant in this programme, which assists with tools and resources to enhance business sustainability, meeting customer sustainability requirements and sustainability claims made by participants.

The wishbone is broken between two people whilst each make a silent wish – the one who gets the bigger half also gets their wish (supposedly!). We liked the bony-ness of the
name, the structure beneath that holds the wine altogether.

Smalltown Vineyards is named after a 28ha vineyard of the same name, an awesome old block in the Northern Barossa’s esteemed Ebenezer District. The vineyard is a joint venture between noted Barossa winemaker Rolf Binder and UK based wine merchant Noel Young.
Boutinot is very proud to be associated with Smalltown Vineyards of the Barossa Valley – for our first proper foray into the Barossa, we could not have been associated with a more compelling producer! We love to have a dabble at making “our own” wines and Australia is one country where we can really let it rip.
Reflecting our skill and experience in seeking out the very best of regional Australia, our wines capture ideal climatic conditions and pure varietal definition. The Barossa Valley is one of the major regions in Australia, where many of the major wine companies are based. It is believed the first vineyards were planted in the 1840s by Silesian migrants (who settled in Bethany). There followed a rapid expansion of plantations. The early styles of wines produced were heavy dry red wines and fortified wines that were popular both domestically and in Britain. After the Second World War the styles shifted to lighter table wines with production of Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. The Barossa Valley is home to some very well known names such as Seppelt, Wolf Blass and Penfolds as well as many smaller producers. The climate is Mediterranean with hot dry summers and cool wet winters, making it ideal for viticulture. The main wine styles: White – Semillon, Riesling, Chardonnay, Semillon-Chardonnay blend; Red – Shiraz (full bodied & ripe) with Old Vine Shiraz a speciality of many vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Shiraz-Grenache-Mataro blend, Cabernet-Merlot blend.
“Australia produces it’s own unique style of Cabernet Sauvignon blend styles, unlike any others found throughout the world, with Shiraz. The fleshy Shiraz fruit weaves itself into the Cabernet’s framework, producing a wine with fabulous structure and flavour.
Alternatively there is the classic Bordeaux blends (Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec etc) adding more complexity and lessening any harshness of the tannins.
There’s always one thing about Cabernet Sauvignon blends: the quality and character of Cabernet Sauvignon shines through.”
