Soumah Yarra Valley Pinot Noir

Soumah Yarra Valley Pinot Noir

A nose of wild strawberry and allspice veiled with black pepper. The palate shows fresh summer pudding notes of berries and cream, underlined with a bright seam pf acidity and very gentle minerality.

Pinot Noir is a very selective grape. It does not like the heat but does like the sun. It likes to be on well drained soils so not good on flat landscapes. It likes warm days but more importantly, cool summer nights. It is so demanding that only a few regions in Australia can aspire to produce a Pinot Noir of any pedigree. The Yarra Valley has attained that status over the decades, and Soumah have set out to support that reputation with their attention to details and first rate vineyard sites. The barrel fermentation develops the rich flavour and aroma of the wine and a good portion of new barrels adds classic soft oak characters helping the overall integration of the wine.

Eat with seared tuna, carpaccio of beef and hard cheeses.

Situated an average of 120 metres above sea level, the vineyard is elevated above the valley floor. The ancient sandy-clay loams with broken sandstone shape the small yield and define the detail in these precise, focussed expressions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Cool nights and slow temperature rise during the day help Soumah retain the unique aroma and flavour profile of every grape variety grown in our vineyard.

Yarra Valley

Victoria is a small state in area, but home to possibly the largest number of wineries in Australia, most of them which are small family-run operations. Victoria’s diverse topography, combining numerous mountain ranges, like the Grampians and the Victorian Pyrenees throughout the centre; flat plains in the northeast; and hilly, ocean-cooled reaches in the Melbourne area, make its vineyards amongst the most scenic in Australia. An enormous range of wine styles are available, and virtually every varietal flourishes in some part of the state.
