Vasse Felix Filius Cabernet Sauvignon – A new-age Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon (blended with Malbec), expressing all the regional hallmarks. It is a bright, fruit-forward, earlier-drinking style with attractive savoury nuances from Vasse Felixs quality-led, minimal intervention winemaking approach..
Son of’ the Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon. It carries the structure, power and tannins of classic Cabernet in an earlier drinking, more forward style from fruit sourced from each of the Vasse Felix vineyards. This wine has all the classic taste and depth of many other cabernet sauvignons but at a price which makes it very affordable
Bright ruby with a purple tinge.
Lovely blood plum and mulberry fragrance, with graphite,
some charred nori, roast pan drippings, spicy charcuterie,
and a hit of Hickory sauce.
A light to medium bodied Cabernet. It has a lovely fresh acidity and fine, crisp and sinewy tannins and a soft, elegant core. Unveils flavours of blood plum and berry compote with
lovely dusty earthiness and hint of nutmeg.
The individual batches were destemmed and sent as whole berries to stainless steel rotating fermenters. 100% wild yeast was allowed to ferment all our red batches. After a few days in a
gentle soak, fermentation kicks off, with batches pressed once fermentation is complete. Open top and use of aeration during fermentation helps to promote a clean fruit perfume, soften
the tannins and bring so much life to the wine. The resulting wines were matured in fine French oak for 11 months prior to blending, with limited racking to help preserve the delicate wild
characters captured in this low intervention approach.
A year of peculiar weather where our commitment to organic viticulture was vital to the successful growth of quality, balanced fruit. A cool and wet spring prompted the need for an
intense leaf plucking program to mitigate disease risk. Luckily, December and January were warm and dry. Canopy management was a priority throughout February and March to
combat unusually warm and moist conditions. A rainfall event in early February provided a timely drink for the red varietals, followed by warm weather which was ideal for the Chardonnay
to achieve ripeness. A second rainfall incident in early March was followed by sunny and breezy conditions to dry off the fruit for healthy ripening. With our judicious canopy
management and a crop of naturally resilient grapes, we are pleased to say that fantastic quality fruit was ripened and harvested with little-to-no disease in our vineyards.

Vasse Felix was the first commercial vineyard and winery to be established in the Margaret River region of Western Australia. The wines from this producer have a great reputation for consistent and award winning quality.
Vasse Felix was established in 1967 and is Margaret River’s founding wine estate. Founder, Dr Tom Cullity, searched the region relentlessly for his first vineyard site, before selecting eight acres in Wilyabrup, which today remains at the heart of the Estate. The Holmes à Court family purchased the estate in 1987, and vineyard expansions have been made with an unwavering commitment unnecessary to Cullity’s simple founding aim –“to make the best possible wine.”
Margaret River Wines
Regarded as one of Australia’s best wine producing regions. It is synonymous with a new era in Australian wine. Margaret River Wine really began its vineyard life as a result of two research reports from Californian viticulturalist Professor Harold Olmo and the Western Australian scientist Dr John Gladstone. In 1965 Dr Gladstone’s report indicated that the region had all the attributes to produce world quality wines. This advise was acted on by Dr Tom Cullity who set up his Vasse Felix vineyard near Willyabrup, followed by Dr Kevin Cullen and his wife Di who set up Cullen Wines. The climate is regarded as ‘cool’ because of its long slow ripening season. This region is regarded along with Coonawarra and the Yarra Valley as one of the premium Cabernet Sauvignon areas in Australia. The main wine styles: Red – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet-Merlot, Shiraz; White – Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc, Verdelho.
